But if 24 hours is all you’ve got, you can still fit in a few of the Eternal City’s most iconic landmarks and soak up its unforgettable atmosphere.
Just keep in mind that the time of year makes a big difference. Summer crowds (and queues!) can be intense, so plan smartly and start early. ☀️🕗

Start your Rome in one day adventure at the Colosseum. Pre-book your small group tour or skip-the-line tickets to save precious time.
I’ve visited the Colosseum at least 4 times now and it never bores me. There’s something quite intense about exploring the arena floor and imagining the gladiatorial battles that once took place here.
Next, stroll through the Roman Forum, once the heart of the empire. Climb up to the Palatine Hill for sweeping views over the ruins.

Late Morning: Piazza Venezia & Pantheon 🏛️
Head toward Piazza Venezia, home to the enormous Altare della Patria (Victor Emmanuel II Monument).
From here, walk to the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved Roman temples, with its famous domed ceiling and oculus.
Grab a gelato from Giolitti, one of Rome’s oldest gelaterias, just around the corner.

If you’re ambitious, book tickets for the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel – just keep in mind they take at least 2-3 hours. If you do this you probably won’t have much time for anything else.
As the day winds down, wander through Piazza Navona, with its fountains, street artists, and lively atmosphere.
Continue to the Trevi Fountain, where you can toss in a coin to ensure your return to Rome.
